About Brett
Brett Calkins is an AFI Conservatory graduate, a 2025 Windrider/Sundance Fellow, and CAA Moebius shortlisted filmmaker. His thesis film Black Whole won Best Student Film at the Windrider Summit & Sundance Film Festival, The San Diego Film Festival, the Zions Indie Film Fest, and more. After it’s festival run, the film was purchased for distribution by Windrider Films.
Originally from the mountains of North Idaho, after High School, Brett lived abroad in Belgium and the Netherlands before receiving his BA in Media Arts from Brigham Young University.
As a husband and father of three, Brett’s films explore stepping through the threshold of parenthood, with all the fear and awe that goes along with it. He is a Cinema Professor at the ASU extension in Los Angeles.
His commercial directing work includes projects for Lowe’s, Bank of America, The NFL Network, and more.

Black Whole
When a haunting black hole appears in their yard, a young pregnant couple must face their fears of miscarriage, to eliminate the phenomenon before it consumes them.
